The recent reports from Arsenal's camp suggest that the Gunners are “ready” to splurge big on France’s star striker, Marcus Thuram, who is on the verge of leaving Inter Milan in the upcoming summer.
As per Caughtoffside, Arsenal are set to compete with their London rivals Chelsea, who are also interested in buying the Inter Milan talisman in order to further bolster their attack.
Is Marcus Thuram the best solution to Arsenal’s No. 9 crisis?
Arsenal have been desperate to sign a new striker since last summer and will continue their search in the coming transfer window as well.
The Gunners’ boss, Mikel Arteta, is facing a major No. 9 crisis upfront at the moment, which has forced him to deploy out-of-position players like Mikel Merino in the false nine role to try and cope with this tough time.
Marcus Thuram, the eldest son of the French icon Lillian Thuram, can be the best possible solution for Arsenal, who possesses the skill set that would fit in well in Arteta’s system, such as blistering pace, top-notch physical ability, and incredible aerial prowess.
Acknowledging his importance to the club, the defending Serie A champions have included a release clause worth a whopping €85m in the French forward’s contract, which will become a major roadblock for any club who tries to secure his services permanently.
However, Arsenal, who have been pushing hard to secure a number nine for their upcoming season, have “enough” budget to trigger Thuram’s release clause, as per recent reports from Tuttosport.
The renowned Italian outlet has also reported that the North Londoners have been evaluating and exploring all the possibilities to sign the in-demand Inter forward, hinting at a possible initial bid which could be worth less than Thuram’s release clause.
