After a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, following a move from Inter Milan, Manchester United’s veteran midfielder, Christian Eriksen, has decided to leave the Red Devils at the end of this season on a mutual agreement with the board as per ESPN.

The 33-year-old Danish midfielder joined the Manchester giants back in 2022, with the hopes of reviving his career after a horrible incident at the UEFA Euros in 2021.

Eriksen’s determination to pull himself back and continue to play at the highest level even after such an incident was highly admired and applauded by the world of football, with United fans feeling excited about the talented midfielder’s addition to their squad.

However, the Dane’s stay with the Red Devils has not gone exactly the way he would’ve hoped for, as he now finds himself to be a liability to the team.

Manchester United only a dark chapter in the incredible journey of Christian Eriksen

Eriksen’s journey at the professional level started in a promising manner as the Ajax prodigy arose from the heart of Europe and soon after became one of the most sought-after names in Europe, with his tremendous spell at Tottenham Hotspur, while making a significant impact for the Denmark national team as well.

However, the 33-year-old’s journey took an unexpected turn when he suffered a devastating cardiac arrest during Denmark’s clash with Finland in the 2021 UEFA Euros.

Despite the horrible incident, Eriksen made a comeback after heart surgery and continued on with his desire and determination to continue playing at the highest level, joining Brentford on loan from Inter in 2022, where he partially succeeded in reviving his career.

Injuries have been the biggest issue for the Danish midfield maestro during his time at Manchester United, missing a total of 24 games since joining the Red Devils, which led to limited game time, while also leading to him falling down the pecking order.

Since his joining back in 2022, Christian Eriksen has made only 77 appearances in all competitions, failing to make any significant impact on the team.

As it stands, the United board is not willing to extend Eriksen’s contract for another year, which leaves no other option for the Dane but to begin his search for a new club in the coming summer.
