The Merseyside derby, which took place at the heart of Anfield last night, saw Arne Slot’s Liverpool manage to take down their local rivals Everton, despite their hard-fought resilience.

The Toffees seemed to have an extra advantage in this tie, led by players like Beto and James Tarkowski giving their best to keep up with the Reds’ energy and momentum.

Everton’s in-form forward, Beto, even managed to put the ball at the back of the host’s net in the opening minutes of the game but saw it being ruled out due to the forward being offside.

It almost began to look like one of those days for Arne Slot’s men, where their constant efforts were failing to convert into any significant output, as the Liverpool attack failed to break through the tough Everton defence.

However, in the 57th minute, Liverpool’s forgotten star, Diogo Jota, danced his way through the visitors’ defence and ended up scoring the only goal of the night, earning 3 crucial points for his side.

Jota’s world-class goal also secured a record 100 victories for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby while taking the mighty Reds’ another step closer to the Premier League title.

Liverpool’s winning mentality outperforms Everton's toughness

It was a tough start for the hosts, as David Moyes deployed a solid low block with centre-backs James Tarkowski and Connor Coady pushing the defence line up to choke the spaces for the Liverpool attackers.

On top of that, the Toffees were constantly trying to catch the Reds out on counterattacks, with Beto hitting the post once and having one of his goals disallowed.

As the game progressed, Liverpool tried their best to penetrate the visitors’ roadblock with inswinging floated deliveries coming into the six-yard box, which was dealt with well by the towering Everton centre-back.

However, in the 57th minute, James Tarkowski gave away the ball, which allowed Liverpool to score the winning goal through Diogo Jota’s excellence, putting them in the driving seat.

Although Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah didn’t score any goals for the Merseyside giants, his presence was enough to make an impact for his side.

With last night’s win, Liverpool now have 73 points in 30 games, being 11 points clear at the top and in pole position to clinch the Premier League title.
