Jose Mourinho has been handed a four-match ban following his controversial comments during Fenerbahçe’s clash against their arch-rivals, Galatasaray.
The Portuguese manager has also been fined a hefty amount of £35,194, being accused of alleged racist comments after the Istanbul derby.
However, Fenerbahce released an official statement stating it to be a complete misunderstanding, with Jose’s words having been taken out of context.
Mourinho also criticised the match referee, which has led to a separate charge against him.
The Turkish Football Federation has penalised him for his ‘derogatory’ and offensive statements towards the referee and insulting statements towards the Turkish football community.
The comment by the 62-year-old, which has sparked alleged racism, is, “After the big dive in the first minute and their bench jumping like monkeys on the top of the kid... with a Turkish referee, you would have a yellow card after one minute, and after five minutes I would have to change [substitute] him.” (sic)
While Mourinho and Fenerbahce continue to fight this ban by even launching a countersuit against Galatasaray, it looks like he will serve a four-match ban at the moment.
What next in Jose Mourinho’s "special" career?
The Portuguese manager has won a trophy at every club he's managed except at Tottenham, where he was sacked just before the Carabao Cup final.
Mourinho even guided Roma to a stellar Conference League win in 2022, becoming the only manager to win all European competitions.
His current aim is to win the Europa League with Fenerbahce, along with the Turkish Super Ligue.
However, with his contract at Fenerbahce set to expire next year, fans are speculating about a possible return to the Premier League for Mourinho after 5 long years.
According to Sky Sports, Jose had previously stated that he'd love to either return to the Premier League or coach a club that is not competing in Europe.
Therefore, a possible return to English football might be on the cards for Mourinho, who once dominated the league with his incredible stint at Chelsea.
