Italian giants Juventus have reportedly set their eyes on "the most in-demand Canadian forward", whose contract with his current club is set to expire at the end of the season.
As reported by JuveFC.com, Jonathan David, who is one of the most sought-after names in Europe at the moment, has become a top target for Juventus, indicating their target to add more firepower to their attack despite already having forwards like Dusan Vlahovic, Arkadiusz Milik, Kenen Yildiz and Nico Gonzalez at their disposal.
Over the past couple of seasons, David has become one of the most promising and consistent strikers in Europe, establishing himself at the heart of Ligue 1, where he has added 107 goals to his name after playing five seasons for LOSC Lille so far.
€34 million for a soon-to-be free agent: Does it make sense for Juventus to splurge such a huge amount?
As it stands, the 25-year-old Canadian international has no intentions of staying at Lille, whereas the French giants have been trying their best to keep him at Stade Pierre Mauroy. As per reports from ESPN, David has also rejected all the new deals offered to him by Lille so far as he prepares for his future elsewhere.
Along with the Canadian’s ambition of taking on a new challenge, the interest from many European giants like Juventus, FC Barcelona, Liverpool, and Manchester United has also made him reconsider his current position at Lille.
As reported by Talksport, Juventus are currently the frontrunner in the race to sign the 25-year-old striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
This soon-to-be free agent would cost Juve nearly €34 million, despite a free transfer, as David and his camp have demanded a whopping €15 million as a signing bonus on top of a gross wage of €9 million per year and €10 million in commissions for his agent and intermediates, which has reportedly put up a massive hurdle in the Italian giants’ quest to sign him.
However, €34 million for a striker of Jonathan David’s quality surely seems like a bargain, even if the Serie A giants have to pay such a big amount of money only on bonuses and commissions in order to secure his signing.
