Real Madrid's star midfielder Jude Bellingham is on the brink of receiving a potential lengthy ban from La Liga after being controversially sent off against Osasuna on Saturday.
The Englishman received a straight red when he was visibly seen swearing “f*** O*f” at the referee José Luis Munuera.
Carlo Ancelotti was also shown a yellow card for showing dissent at the referee's decision.
The Italian manager claimed that the Bellingham incident was just a misunderstanding between the player and the referee.
Bellingham also defended himself, saying that his words were not aimed towards the ref but just an act of frustration. However, the match officials did not buy any of it.
It was a pivotal moment in the game, as Real Madrid went down to 10 men, eventually drawing the game with a scoreline of 1-1, dropping crucial points in the La Liga title race.
The Los Blancos have officially lodged a complaint against several other referee decisions in the game, with the defending champions believing that they should've been awarded two penalties for reckless fouls on Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr.
Controversial refereeing despite VAR: What's going on in La Liga?
Despite the presence of technology in the game, La Liga has constantly made the headlines for the controversial decisions given during its matches.
On several occasions, the match officials have been seen making wrong decisions that surprisingly get backed by the VAR, which has a massive impact on the results of the games and even on the course of the season for the teams.
Almost every club in the league has complained against the misuse of VAR and the match officials, with the Los Blancos sending two formal complaints against RFEF to take action on this matter this season.
The same outrage happened last season, when Barcelona were the victims of controversial decisions.
Former FC Barcelona manager Xavi had also complained and spoken out about the poor quality of refereeing and the ineffective use of VAR.
