Lionel Messi's future with the beautiful game has been a matter of discussion and wonderment for the football fans as they head towards another World Cup.
The next edition of the FIFA World Cup will take place in the summer of 2026 in the USA, where Lionel Messi is currently balling it out.
Since joining Inter Miami back in 2023, Messi has changed the landscape of American football as the world has begun to give more attention to Major League Soccer now.
Messi’s presence has not just attracted fans from all across the globe but a large number of prolific European players as well, who have started to join the MLS more than ever since the great man's arrival.
What has Messi said about the 2026 World Cup?
After giving Inter Miami the perfect start to the new year with a win over Club América in the MLS Preseason, Messi was asked questions about his future and even regarding the possibility of playing in the 2026 World Cup.
As per Goal, Messi said, “We have been doing preseason; we have few training sessions. So it helps us to continue growing with a new coach and to continue improving” while speaking to TNT about the upcoming season of the MLS.
When asked about the World Cup, the iconic player said, “I'm just starting the year; I'm starting it very excited, with a lot of desire. I hope I can start feeling well and start with a good preseason, adding minutes to be in the best shape when the official matches come.”
Messi's performances since joining Inter Miami
Leo Messi's move to Inter Miami was arguably the most significant transfer in the history of American football. Joining David Beckham’s side on a free deal, the great Argentine has done wonders for Miami.
As per MessivsRonaldo.com, the legendary player has scored 31 goals and provided 16 assists in just 33 appearances for Inter Miami since his arrival in 2023.
His brilliant displays on a consistent basis have earned him a total of 7 individual awards with Miami so far, including the 2024 MLS MVP Award, and the honourary Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this month, making him the first-ever footballer to win the highest civilian honour in the United States.

Apart from the personal accolades, Messi has also turned around Inter Miami’s fate. Captaining his side, Messi has led Inter Miami two trophies in the last two years, namely the MLS League Cup in the 2023/24 season, and the MLS Supporters Shield in 2024.
Messi's guidance and brilliant displays have also helped Inter Miami to secure a qualification in this year's FIFA Club World Cup.
Leo Messi's performances with the national team have also remained tremendous, as he still remains the heart of Argentina, which suggests that the fans could be seeing arguably the greatest player of all time once again at the grandest stage of them all.
