Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing the World Cup-winning Argentine forward, Julian Alvarez, from Atlético Madrid in the upcoming summer.

Madrid giants signed Alvarez from Manchester City for a whopping €95m in the summer window of 2024, which became one of the biggest sales in the history of the Premier League and the highest ever for Manchester City.

Multiple sources have provided details about this newly spread rumour, stating that despite having joined Atlético not even a year ago, Julian Alvarez will be a top target for Liverpool in the upcoming summer, as they plan on signing a new No.9.

Liverpool’s fascination with Alvarez is not new

As per This is Anfield, Fernando Hidalgo, Alvarez’s agent, confirmed that an approach was made from the Merseyside giants back in 2024, when City were exploring the option to sell the Argentine forward.

Speaking in a recent interview, Hidalgo stated, “As for the future, this is not the right time to talk about it, as Julian is competing in important tournaments and is fully focused on them.” (sic)

On the other hand, Atlético Madrid’s sporting director, Carlos Bussero, dismissed any rumours claiming any move from Liverpool, stating, “The talk about Liverpool submitting an official offer to sign our player Julian Alvarez is incorrect; what is being circulated is just rumours, and Alvarez is a key and important player in our project, and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours.” (sic)

Can Alvarez really leave Atlético just after one season?

As it stands, the Colchoneros do not want to part ways with the talented 25-year-old summer recruit, who has five more years left in his newly signed contract.

On top of that, Alvarez has made himself comfortable in the Spanish capital and seems to be enjoying his career under the management of Diego Simeone, scoring 22 goals across all the competitions so far, which has made him one of the most impactful players in the squad.

Therefore, the chances of a possible move in the summer look quite bleak, with Liverpool monitoring the situations of other world-class strikers as well, such as Newcastle United's talisman, Alexander Isak, who at the moment appears to be the topmost summer target for the Reds.
