Ajax’s rising star Jorrel Hato has been linked to a possible move to Liverpool in the coming summer, being considered a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 19-year-old has excelled at club level for Ajax, proving himself to be a versatile defender, possessing the ability even as a left-back, while also playing in the midfield at times.
The rising defender has made 42 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 3 goals and providing 6 assists.
Despite his young age, Hato’s ability to play the ball from the back is exceptional, proving it on many occasions for Ajax in the Dutch league.
Two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink heaped praises on the talented Dutchman, claiming, “He's got it all.”
However, Hasselbaink also stated that he thinks that “is not ready for the Premier League yet”, advising his fellow Dutchman to wait a few more years.
In a recent interview, the former Cardiff City forward stated, "In the Netherlands he gets away (with) playing as a centre-half. He won't be able to do that in England.” (sic)
Praising his versatility, he further added, “Technically, he’s very good. When he plays at left-back, he has the ability to come into midfield. He's got everything; he's good with the ball. He can defend; he's quick enough.” (sic)
Arsenal ready to challenge Liverpool in the race for Jorrel Hato
As per TEAMtalk, Arsenal have joined the race to sign Jorell Hato from Ajax, with Liverpool set to face strong competition from their Premier League rivals.
Recurring injury issues to the Gunners’ star full-backs, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, have reportedly prompted Mikel Arteta and his board to chase Hato in the summer.
Liverpool are keen on signing the Dutchman to strengthen their defence for next season and even beyond. The Reds reportedly see Hato as a potential long-term backup for their captain, Virgil Van Dijk, who is yet to sign a contract renewal.
However, on top of Ajax’s high expected price for their promising talent, Liverpool’s fight with Arsenal also poses a major hurdle for them in securing Hato’s signing in the upcoming summer transfer window.
