Real Madrid and Brazil legend Marcelo has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36. The Brazilian decided to hang up his boots after an illustrious career of 19 years.
Marcelo ends his illustrious career having won 5 Champions League titles and 6 La Liga titles with Real Madrid. He also represented the Brazilian national team at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
Marcelo decided to end his career, following the termination of his contract with Fluminense.
The star defender has hinted that he might be open to other career aspects in football as a manager or a technical director, showcasing his desire to be involved with football even beyond his playing career is over.
Posting an Instagram video on Thursday, he says; “My story as a player ends here, but I still have much to give to football. At 18, Real Madrid came knocking, and I arrived. I can proudly say I’m a true ‘Madrileno. 16 seasons, 25 titles, 5 UCLs, one of the captains & many magical nights at Bernabeu. Real Madrid is a unique club. Madridismo is an indescribable feeling.” (sic)

CR7 used his official Instagram account to dedicate a post to Marcelo, cherishing the glittering career of the Brazilian and their times together.
