Real Madrid have climbed to the top of the La Liga points table following their 4-1 win over Las Palmas yesterday. The crucial win has resulted in the Los Blancos going 2 points clear at the top, ahead of arch-rivals Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Kylian Mbappé was too hot to handle for the visitors, Las Palmas, who also played the last 30 minutes of the game while being down to 10 men. Mbappé scored a brace to secure the win for Real, with the Frenchman now registering a G/A of 10 in his last 10 games for the Galácticos.
Barcelona are falling behind while Atlético Madrid are still going strong
Yesterday's result meant that Real Madrid have gone 2 points ahead of Atlético Madrid, who sit at the 2nd place, and 5 points clear of arch-rivals Barcelona, who occupy the 3rd spot currently.
Post-November has been a tough period for Hansi Flick and his team. While they did win the Supercopa de España a few weeks ago, their downfall in the league has been very disappointing.
Having won just 2 games out of 9 matches played in La Liga since the beginning of November, Barça have gone from 1st place, being 6 points clear at the top in matchday 11, to the 3rd spot, being 5 points behind the league leaders currently.
On the other hand, Diego Simeone’s men have maintained strong progress since the beginning of December. Atlético have won 8 out of their 9 games since the beginning of November, climbing to 2nd place, being just 1 point behind the league leaders.
Atlético’s impressive run of results has meant that the Los Colchoneros have the best record in La Liga since November, signifying their stable and great progress as Diego Simeone aims for his 3rd league title with his prestigious club.
