Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim fears that his time with Manchester United might be coming to a premature end following the team’s disappointing performance this season.
The Portuguese manager also stated that he might not get as much as the Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, got in order to improve his squad.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager seeks time from the board to implement a change in the culture at the club, taking inspiration from his rival Mikel Arteta, who did the same with the Gunners.
The Spaniard had also faced a tough time with Arsenal on the verge of being sacked, but he fought on despite the adversities.
In the end, with the support of the board, Arteta managed to create a world-class team that has been challenging for the Premier League title for the last three seasons.
Like Arteta, Amorim has also failed to bring any significant improvement to his squad in the initial months, as Manchester United sit 14th in the league table with just 33 points in 27 games.
The board, led by INEOS, is under pressure, which makes Amorim's future uncertain, with many speculating that the former Sporting Lisbon manager might not even get another season at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils face a dangerous Arsenal side tonight that wreaked havoc against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday.
While United will be heading into tonight’s game being the underdogs, they will aim to salvage something from this game to relieve some stress from their under-pressure manager.
Does Ruben Amorim regret joining Manchester United?
Ruben Amorim was cruising with Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese League as well as the Champions League.
However, he chose to leave the club mid-season when Manchester United knocked at his door and agreed to replace Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils’ next manager.
The 40-year-old might be regretting his decision right now, as under his reign, the Red Devils have lost 10 out of the 25 games they have played in all competitions.
According to Sky Sports, INEOS had presented Amorim with a now-or-never offer back in November, which he couldn't refuse because of the glamorous nature of the job.
However, the Portuguese coach has been quite stunned after understanding that the players at United are not up to the level as he would’ve expected to be.
As per Football Insider, an insider source informed that, “Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has told friends he thinks he made a mistake taking the job at Old Trafford.” (sic)
He further added that, “The Portuguese boss, 40, feels he should have waited until this summer at least—and should not have succumbed to the ‘now-or-never’ ultimatum issued to him by United chiefs.” (sic)
