Thomas Müller is set to part ways with Bayern Munich in the upcoming summer when his current deal with the Bavarian giants ends.

As per Sky Sports, the club board and management have finally taken the difficult decision to not renew Müller’s contract, forcing the 35-year-old to leave Bayern after an extraordinary 17 years at the club.

As per multiple reports, the club is prioritising financial profitability and, as a result, are employing cost-cutting to accommodate potential future transfer targets, leaving absolutely no room even for club legends like the German midfielder to even seek a one-year contract extension.

While the decision does not come as a massive surprise considering Müller’s significant decline due to his increasing age, the fans of the club have been left fuming by the management's treatment of one of their biggest legends.

As per Teamtalk, the Bayern Munich fans believe that not renewing the 35-year-old midfielder’s contract despite him agreeing to play in a reduced, limited role is “straight-up disrespectful”.

“What’s good for you one day will not necessarily be still good to you the day after”: Thomas Müller’s incredible journey at Bayern Munich

One of the most inspiring journeys ever witnessed in football began back in 2000, when an 11-year-old Thomas Müller joined Bayern Munich as a part of their academy and youth team. Little would anyone have known back then that he would go on to become one of the greatest players ever to grace the game.

Since making his senior team debut in 2008, Müller has only experienced success with the Bavarian giants, winning a total of 33 trophies, including 12 Bundesliga titles and 2 UEFA Champions League titles.

The German superstar has arguably been the most iconic player for Bayern, being the player with the most number of appearances for the club while also being the most decorated player in the history of the club. On top of these accolades, the 35-year-old will also undeniably go down as one of the greatest goal scorers and playmakers for the Bavarian giants.

In a staggering 742 matches, the Bavarian legend has scored 273 goals and provided 273 assists, cementing his name into the history books.

Thomas Müller’s impact for Bayern over the years has not just been restricted to the field, as the star midfielder has made a massive impact off the pitch as well. The club’s rising star players like Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Alphonso Davies have often mentioned him as their mentor while also stating that the 35-year-old has been their source of inspiration and motivation.

Following Messi's footsteps: Müller likely to head to the MLS

Thomas Müller could be the next big name to join the MLS, with multiple American clubs reportedly plotting a move for the “Raumdeuter”.

As per Bild, FC Cincinnati and San Diego FC are highly interested in the German international. LAFC have also reportedly recently entered the race, having previously signed European superstars like Kaka, Gareth Bale, David Villa, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

With some of the biggest names in the game, such as Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez, joining the league in recent times, the MLS has become more than just a “retirement league”, prompting European stars to play in America.

A big name like Thomas Müller would be a giant investment for the MLS and American football, especially with the Club World Cup and the World Cup being just around the corner.
