Manchester United have unveiled their plans to create a new “Theatre of Dreams” with the idea of building a new stadium with a massive 100,000 seating capacity near Old Trafford.

The Red Devils confirmed the news via their official Instagram account with a post, which was captioned, “Our new home: A new 100,000-seater stadium will be the centrepiece of the Old Trafford regeneration.” (sic)

The huge piece of information comes just days after the club’s majority stake owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, stated his target of creating the “world’s greatest football stadium” in order to mark a new beginning for the iconic club.

Speaking on the club’s future plans today, Ratcliffe stated, "Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world's greatest stadium," said Ratcliffe.

He further added, "Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the arenas in world sport, “ as reported by BBC

How can Manchester United afford such an expensive project?

As per the BBC, the estimated cost of the entire “Old Trafford regeneration” project is around a stunning £2 billion and is expected to be completed in a time span of five years.

While the world of football has expressed thrill regarding Manchester United’s exciting new project, there is one major question that would be crossing every fan’s mind all across the globe: how will the Red Devils be able to afford such an expensive project?

In the situation of a major financial crisis, the board led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already taken some “extreme” measures to tackle this massive challenge, which includes cutting down on free lunch for the staff and even shutting down the funding for the Association of Former Manchester United Players.

Just recently, the Manchester United co-owner provided further insights into the depth of the financial crisis that Manchester United are currently experiencing, stating that the club “would have run out of cash” if it weren’t for the cost-cutting measures that the club took.

Ratcliffe's recently provided details regarding United’s financial situation further raise major doubts regarding the club’s possible approach of financing the multi-billion dollar stadium project, as it surely seems surprising that the Manchester United board decided to go forward with such a through-the-roof project while the club is in such major debt.
